Depression and the Depths of Hell

By Iain McGilchrist

Iain McGilchrist

Psychiatrist and author Iain McGilchrist seeks to understand the mind and the brain in their full physical, spiritual, and cultural context. His most recent book, The Master and His Emissary: The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World, explores the nature of the brain's two hemispheres, their relationship to one another, and their link to the creation of our consciousness and our culture. He is currently working on a book about creativity and mental illness. In this short video, he discusses his struggle with depression and explores the costly insight gained by passing through the darkness.

Iain McGilchrist delivered the 2016 Laing Lectures at Regent College, entitled “God, the Brain, and Paradox.”  Learn more.
